Title: Estimate on parts/ labor
Post by kamekaze on 09/24/10 at 13:46:49

Thought I could work on my savage myself, but between my kiddos and ridiculous work schedule I'm finding I don't really have the energy to figure this all out...  I need a cam chain and tensioner, I can get the parts at whole sale price if anybody knows the part  numbers on bike bandit.  My main concern is the install price.  The few shops I've talked to in town have this at $550 and up job, is this really what it costs?  I appreciate any help y'all can give me!  Thanks

Yup...

... unless you can find a backyard mechanic...

PS,... get a Versy slot/pin modded adjuster to make the job worthwhile... it can save your engine....

WOW!!!  I did not realize I could have spent that much money when I did the job myself.  Funny thing, I don't seem to have that mony around, humm, wonder where it went? :-?

I knew there was a good reason to work on the thing myself.

Current price for a stock chain was $90 a few months ago, gasket about $17 and a stock tensioner is about $55.  Oil and this and that and you're looking at over $200 in parts alone.  3 to 5 hours of labor, yeah.  $500+, sure.

You dont have to do it all at once. You can spend 20 minutes now & then. 500 bucks is a load O dough &, if you plan on keepin this bike, youll do it again & maybe again. Unless people do their own basic maintenance on these, they get expensive.
