Title: Have a messed up on oil.?
Post by 23Skidoo on 09/21/10 at 10:32:09

I was on a 400 mile round trip last weekend and noticed I was low on oil (got the usual leak) so I topped up with 10/40 synthetic.. got back and realised on my last oil change I used a 10/40 part synthetic.. Is this an epic fail? I know a lot of debate revolves around types of oil but I'm clueless.. Am I ok to ride for another week before I can afford a complete change?

Thanks.

OH NO ANOTHER OIL WAR!!!!!!!!!! :o

Seriously, I would think you are OK, part synthetic mixed with mixed synthetic.  how much damage could it do.

I am sure there will be plenty of smarter people who reply and get you on the striaght and narrow.  Probably some not so smart people will reply as well (hey, I just did!)

I would say you are OK

All the synthetic I have read about say you can mix them with regular oil,Even Hi-Performance racing Klotz oil says you can,Klotz is what I use I don't burn any oil,Engine runs cooler,And you have more horse power.

Unless you have true synthetic costing way in excess of $12 a quart, just about all syn is now just highly filtered mineral oil aka dino.  Mixing dino with highly refined dino is quite acceptable.

Thanks for the reassurance guys.. I thought as much but too much google can lead to plenty of panic.. :-? I'm due a full change anyway so will do next week to put my mind at rest.

At least yours isn't leaking oil from every place possible, like mine.
