Has anybody tried using an iPhone mounted to the handlebars on a Savage? I don't want to use the phone, but I do like the GPS it has, but I'm concerned about the vibration destroying the phone. I know you can buy a handlebar mount for it, but I'm trying to see if anyone has tried one, and what your experience with it was.

You could build some vibration soaking rubber into the mount if youre worried about scrambling its little guts.

I wonder what ~~paint shaker~~ Harley riders do. I was next to one at a light earlier today, and I was astounded how much that beast shook—even though I've ridden them before.

Speaking of vibration and cellphones, there is an app for a Droid (and probably iphones, etc.) called Vibrometer that uses the accelerometers in the phone to precisely measure vibration. All you do is touch the phone to something that is vibrating and it gives you a level of vibration. I've used it so far to balance fan blades on an oscillating fan, and on an overhead fan.

I wonder if this would be handy for us?

Brainstorming:
-- checking out various configurations of bars and bar end weights
-- putting a tire/wheel on an axle mounted in a vise, spinning it real fast and measuring vibration of different placement and sizes of weights
-- different types of muffler mounts for non-stock mufflers

Any other ideas?

This is what i'm trying, fits 3G,3GS IPhones and claims to be wetherproof and has a silicone inner liner to reduce vibration: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004EC1Q8U
It disconnects from the mount so you can take it off when not wanted and it also swivels on the mount for portrait or landscape view. Feels pretty solid and built well. There is even a recess in the liner at the bottom that allows a charge cord to be plugged in while it is inside the case. There is also a IPhone 4G version too.

i tried a cd player with 60 second shock memory wouldn t work..
wear it around my waist it does fine...
my mp3 works fine, kinda suspended in the risers

All the rubber mounted HDs are exaggerated by the mounts....my 98 XL is solid mounted and it shakes pretty good, but it isn't as harsh as it seems. Compared to the savage, the savage is smooth. The untra sonic vibes from 2 cylinders will loosen everything...Locktite is your friend. My old Triumphs will actuall break things off...like tail lights, headlight brackets, horns, loosen electrical connections....my friends Savage usually just loosens eat bolts and cheap tail light brackets we make to go on her license plate frame.

On my Ironhead...before, during, after every ride. On my evo (rigid mount) every few rides or when I notice something missing or mor 'buzz' than normal. My friends rubber mount evo and big twin, never.
