Title: Cables and hose for 18 inch apes
Post by gearhead1331 on 09/17/10 at 14:41:02

I have put on 18 Inch apes on my 87 Savage.  Any recommendations for where to go for cables?

Barnett will do any kind of custom cable and brake line, but you must go through an authorized dealer to do it.
You will need the exact measurement for each cable/line; put your bars on the bike the way it will be for final assembly and measure each cable/line from end to end along the route you plan on using for them...measure to within 1/2"
then you submit all the measurements along with the specifications for the LS650 clutch, throttle and brake assembly attachments.
the clutch cable and brake line are fairly standard but the throttle cable attachment is unique and there are 3 different ones depending on the model year of your bike

This can all be worked out with your local dealer if he is not a jerk vtwin type, some are some not; find a good one and he will do you right.
I can help if you wish.  I have the special part numbers for the assorted throttle cables required for the LS650; they are listed under my designated Savage Performance part numbers and are not listed in the normal parts catalog
I will help you get the cable or give you the numbers you need if you have a local dealer you work with.

Seems measuring the difference from a reference point would do it & be loads easier. Id look at where they are, mark the cable housing near the steering head , measure from there out to the handlebar end. Swap bars & measure from where it needs to go, back to the mark.

That would yield the difference between stock & new cable. Leaving the old one in place till the new one gets there, OR at least, pulling a strong cord into place with the old one, would make the swap easier, wouldnt it?

This place http://www.flandersco.com/About.html can make whatever you'd need or has universals. I used to live near them but now I go to a local shop in Tucson that makes them up in a couple of hours. Last one I had only needed an inner cable and was cheap since I didn't need all the parts.
