Title: a bluesy feeling
Post by dantheridingman on 09/16/10 at 00:41:50

so, part of my header pipe, is discolored. more of a yellow than a blue. and it goes down the pipe for about a foot before it goes back to chrome. i bought a new exhaust, and it started to blue right where it meets the header pipe. and has only about 6 inches of blue, before going to  chrome.

my question is this. Can i do anything to make it more blue, mainly the gap between discoloration on my exhaust pipe? i know heat has everything to do with it, i just didn't know if i could speed the process up

i dont mind a little blue on my pipe, i think it gives it a little character

Very unusual question... ;D ;D...
...but,I like your thinking... ;)...

Just ride harder,.. ride in traffic,... ride the mountains,...ride in the rain...
Ride, ride ,ride....
... and be sure to enjoy it.... ;)...

I had about 5,000 miles on my 05 & the headerwas still all bright, shiny & new lookin.I was sittin in the driveway, playing with the gas, listening to the valeves, trying to decide if it was time to adjust them.I looked down at the header & itwas blue up closeto the head. At first,I was pretty unhappy about it.I finally adopted a much more rel;axed attitude toward keeping it looking new.Ive since learned to enjoy the bike more while rubbing on it less..
My  suggestion would be,dont sweat making it do anything, let it do what it will & ride that thang & smile,a lot.

My '06 has now 13,500 miles on it and no blueing on the header. No discoloration on the header at all. Am I the only one?

I've had 8 big bikes in my life, and every one of them had a nice blue header pipe before I got done riding them. Work them hard enough in hot enough weather, and it'll blue. Those that tune according to pipe blueing,....well, I feel for them :'(

My Guzzi was blued 6 or 8 inches on both sides before I got outta Houston, riding it home from MPH.

I wrapped the header pipe but my guess is it's blue underneath. Hell, even my muffler has some blue on it.

What about gold? My header is a nice golden hue for about 10 inches. There's a couple spots that have some blue from someone putting a finger print on there or something...

My bike has tons of miles( 45,000) and the pipe is blue maybe only 1/4 inch from the header. I run it a bit on the rich side. Lean adjustments cause it to turn color on you.
