Title: straight vs Trapp
Post by Hashbrown on 09/07/10 at 10:00:56

ok, me and my buddy are in a heated debate over the future of my bobber project, specifically the pipes.  i love the supertrapp muff and was fortunate to get one included with the purchase of my savage.  his reason are the pipe looks stupid (which i dont agree with), a straight pipe will be louder then the trapp (i got 14 discs in mine) , but concedes that the performance would be slightly better with the trapp.

so the question to the savage gurus, if this were your bike and you were looking for tone and loudness as well as performance, would you do a straight pipe or leave the trapp on.

It's your bike,... you like the Supertrapp...

Build your bike for you,.. not someone else... ;)...

overall performance will be better with the trapp.

you might get a little higher top end with the straight pipe but it'll be harder to tune.

If it were me and I already had the trapp, I'd use it.

why harder to tune.  also im runing a 155 main and 55 pilot jet so i dont have to worry about it being too lean on me.  with that many discs  (14) i should be able to tune it pretty good.   also does anyone else run a trapp and if so how many discs.  is 14 too many

Hashbrown I'm running an almost open pipe with a 55 pilot and 155 main here is the muffler I am using,
EMGO SPLIT SHORTY MUFFLER
   * 12" long
   * Fits 1-1/2" or 1 3/4" pipes
   * All mufflers fit left or right
I think the major problem I'm having is due to lack of back pressure, my mileage is about 30 mpg not real good.
Still trying to get the backfire under control!!

Running a Trapp with -0- disks. Bought her like that 2 1/1 years ago and still running strong at 24K.

Get a Trapp. Trapp is good 8-)

I'm running the Trapp w/the eight disks that it came with originally and Hubby also added some homemade disks (I don't know how many)

I run the supertrapp with 8 discs. I just like the sound. A nice rumble and it sounds cool when backing off the throttle.

8 disks was okay, but since I installed Lancers cam & wanted a bit more OOomph, I added the 6 pack O disks. 14 isnt too loud, itll roll gently thru a hospital zone & not disturb, or, itll roar a bit, if ya wick it up.

depending on what your looking for 14 may not be enough but the 55 is may likely be too big
