Title: first time paying a shop in 2 1/2 years
Post by photojoe on 09/02/10 at 14:59:53

Well, I did it. Paid a shop to install a rear tire. Total with my tire was $99.00. They adjusted the brakes also, and they feel a lot better. All in all, not a bad feeling being that I've done everything on this bike to keep it running since I got it 2 1/1 years ago.

IMO, if you rode it in, and rode it out,.....don't seem out of line, if the shop charge is near $100 an hr. If the shop rate is $50, then 2 hrs seems a little bit much.

But maybe you weren't asking anything about the price.

When I do a tire, (near future) I would R&R the wheel, and have a shop switch the tire,......providing the tire changer person wasn't just hired yesterday.

Their shop rate is $85 an hour which is the going rate around here. With  balancing beads, old tire disposal and tax came to $99. Left it there late yesterday and picked it up around 5:00 today. I was very happy with their service.

Needed to get rid of that slippery type of new tire feeling, so I just got back from an 80 mile night ride through horse country.
It had to be done  ;D ;D  ;D

Ive spent 30 just hauling it in & handing it to them. IF I let them pull & reinstall AND I buy the tire from them, the $$$ would just be tooo much to bear. 120 ish for a tire & Id bet, close to 100 for the R&R. I gotta do all the labor on it I can. Much as I like the dudes up at the dealership, I cant afford to feed them.

I hear ya Justin, I hate the thought of paying a shop to do anything that I can, or want to do myself. But, and a big Butt, I draw the line at tires.

I got a very good deal on Ebay for my Continental Cont-Blitz tire for $60 with free shipping. The worst part of the whole deal was not having my bike for 24 hours.
