Title: It's ALIVE!
Post by babyhog on 08/29/10 at 18:55:26

Well, we have another happy Savage rider!  We got the bike running today.  Woooohooo!  Seems to run pretty good for 15-20 minutes at a time, then will backfire and miss a bit.  Let it cool down and it fires right back up, runs good again, then acts up again.

First off, we were just happy we got it wired up and it started!  Now we'll need to take it back apart and clean everything up really well.  Gas tank, carb, etc.  Might even run some sea foam thru it, just for bill67!

He rode it up and down the road quite a bit, and he absolutely loves it.  People stopped him to ask what it was and he loved that too.  He's excited.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Oh, its an '87 frame/engine, and we pulled the wiring and about everything else off an '86.

Congratulations!  I am surprised yall got it running this soon.  Suggestions?  Maybe a fender and pillon seat so he can pick up chicks.  ;)

Your hubby deserves a bike lift for the full teardown/cleanup.

I think I'm a little surprised too!  But everything fell together nicely!  Round trip to and from Lancer's was about 13 hours yesterday, but worth it.  Didn't have to wait for pieces to come in the mail.   Can't believe I forgot to take a pic of me and Lancer together!!

And he has a truck for picking up chicks...  so I hope he'll ride the bike solo!  Thank you very much!  (He doesn't even have his learner's permit yet!  LOL  He'll go to DMV after school tomorrow)

Hey!  You're supposed to be on my side!  Hubby has me, he don't need no stinkin' bike lift!   ;D   (but he thanks you anyway)

Yea, this has been fun so far....  until I checked the insurance!  Holy crap, I thought it was awful adding him to the car policy.  He's gonna have to work alot of hours.....  LOL

I hear you on the insurance part but trust me, once the three of you start riding together you'll know it was worth it. My son and I both started riding at the same time with (with hubby) and while we were close before the biking has seemed to make us bond that much more! Now we're biker buddies! ;D

Suggest that he call it "The Great Pumpkin".

Cleaned the carb last night, swapped out the petcock, and strained the fuel.  Some yucky stuff in the tank from a small hole at the base of the petcock, so we might have to cycle it a few times.  But afterwards, it was running pretty good.

Took a little ride, and stopped once, lined up the bikes and took some pictures.  Hubby's is a huge C90, then my S40, then this Savage looks a bit smaller than mine, especially without all the extras mine has (big saddlebags, rear fender, windshield...).  I said "The Three Suzukis"....   :)

Sounds like things are rolling right along Piglet.. So where's a pic of the 3 of you on the bikes together?
Having a goal to work towards really motivates a person. Seems that your son may have found a nice goal to reach, with getting his savage.. :) kim
