Title: Shock mount stripped Post by verslagen1 on 08/15/10 at 10:53:51 Got a problem, my shock mount stud is stripped. Any recommendation for a fix? |

Title: Re: Shock mount stripped Post by verslagen1 on 08/15/10 at 11:09:45 I'm thinking of using an electric motor shaft collar http://www.ruland.com/images/Collars_group_wQC.jpg |
Title: Re: Shock mount stripped Post by Oldfeller on 08/15/10 at 11:15:03 Try cleaning up the threads with the appropriate metric die if that don't work ...... Rethread using a die to the next smaller size (metric or english) in either case ...... Use never-seize on the new nut to keep it from happening again |

+1 on OF idea |
Title: Re: Shock mount stripped Post by Ed L. on 08/15/10 at 11:21:53 It depends on how stripped off the threads are. If the stud has some threads left then try rethreading with the same thread or a coarser thread. If the stud is stripped smooth then go one size smaller with a die. All the nut does is keeps the shock from sliding off the stud, it doesn't carry any real load. Replacing the mount could be a bit of work, you need to make sure it is square to the frame before welding and the weld needs to be good cause of the stress from the shock. |
Title: Re: Shock mount stripped Post by verslagen1 on 08/15/10 at 13:50:15 threads are stripped smooth or near to it. going with a split collar for now. maybe with a pin to back it up. don't like the idea of welding as the mount maybe hardened, although I doubt it. |
