Title: New Owner, quick question
Post by Phaeron on 08/11/10 at 10:45:28

First of all, hello!

I recently bought a 2000 LS650. I love it already, and have been having a blast. A couple of weeks ago I had the rear tire changed. Ever since then, there has been a clicking noise coming from the rear wheel. I didn't notice it at first, what with my helmet and everything, but it has gotten really bad. When I ride around the yard to listen for it, it is really loud and constant. clickclickclickclick

Also, if I get some speed up, there is also an occasional thump... I'm really at a loss as to what this could be caused by. Any suggestions on what to look at?

I did check the drive belt tension to see if that was off, but it seems fine.

What size is the tire they put on,If you can get the rear off the ground spin the rear wheel maybe you will know where its coming from.

I cannot remember exactly off the top of my head, but I believe that the rear tire is 15" 140/90-15

I do not have a motorcycle jack/lift and I have not yet found a good way to get the back end off the ground. Any suggestions?

Does the clicking noise speed up as you go faster?  And how many miles on the odo?

check the belt, there may be something wedged in there.

take off the pulley cover and check in there as well.

Check the belt tension. If the belt is too loose it flaps up and hits a tiny little protrusion on the frame that belt cover attaches to. It can leave gouge marks on the belt, it's rather a sharp edge.
::) Don't ask me how I know this. :-[
