Title: electrical breakdown
Post by el Dude on 08/10/10 at 15:10:00

2001 Savage has been running great!  Stopped at post office today and when I tried to start bike, nothing: no lights, no horn, no starter.
Towed bike home (first for me) and found that jiggling the wires coming out of the ignition switch would cause the lights to come on.  When I press the starter button, I only get a click and lights go off.  Did this several times.
Any ideas.

Had a similar incident a couple weeks back.  Put the battery tender on it over night, then the next morning I pulled the battery, cleaned the terminals and connectors, and re-installed.  Worked fine after that.

you gotta loose connection somewhere or a weak battery.
charge the battery overnight.
while you look for corrosion or loose connections.
the ground on the bottom of the engine behind the oil fill window is common.  yours maybe a 1st with a loose connection at the switch.

First thing I did was check the batt.  Looks fine.  I'll check other connections, esp. the ground you mentioned.
Thanks for input.
