Title: Foam
Post by Wolfman on 08/06/10 at 20:31:47

Dinking ideas around in my head for cheap mods. Got to thinking about the seat and makeing it more comfy.
Was wondering of those that have redone their seats themselves, what kind of foam had you used and where did you get it?

I carved my original up a bit and inserted a "Saddlemen Raw Gel" pad.  I would just say if you are gonna carve foam, an electric carver like you use for carving turkey or ham at Thanksgiving time works great!

Johnboy, is it one of them mats like they use for camping/sleeping bags?
You cut it to shape and layer it or what?

What i want to do is find a GOOD foam and redo my seat without a $150 gel pads ect. Wanting to do it cheap...lol.

Shecky, i may give that try for the short term and see how it works. The cover itself padded or did you have to add a pad to it?

Have you tried a sheepskin seat cover yet? It's worth the money IMHO. Looks good in black, too. And covers up the crack in the vinyl on my seat.

I got the dense blue foam mat fron Walmart. It may have been sold as a camping mat. At the time, they were selling it for floor excercise.
Here is a good tip: You can shave it to fit with a small surefoam file. I used the curved file about 2" square to dish out the area for my butt. If you screw it up, just glue in more foam and start over.

I gots me an idear to do a lil experimentation with the 'downward faceing dog' pad and the watercloset seat cover.
Couple 1 inch elastic straps and some industrial strength velcro. May prove interesting.

Got me another idea to try if i can find any of them gel type beads at wally world. Gel bead seat...lol
