Title: another freakin jetting question
Post by RTC on 08/03/10 at 21:51:17

i recently put on a pretty open pipe and a drop in k&n. i was pretty lean before with a 52.5 pilot and a 150 main so i figured i'd go ahead and upsize to a 152.5 main and the only pilot available at the time was a 55 with bleed holes. the bike starts up great and runs great, no more backfire even on shutoff, which was the standard before. but i had to have the mix screw all the way in and i was getting heavy black soot in the exhaust.
i noticed the black soot on my wrap so i peeled it off and resealed the slip on. wrapped it back up and went ahead and put my 52.5 pilot back in. i haven't ridden yet so we'll see how it performs tomorrow.
before the pipe and drop in filter i had to have my screw out really far(4 turns). i know it was rich on the pilot just know cause i would see a very little amount of black smoke at idle and the idle was lower than usual. should i try a 55 without bleed holes? i thought the bleed hole were to provide a smooth transition between throttle positions?

I experienced the same problem using the 55 pilot with bleed holes. So I went back to the stock 52.5. It is a little too lean and turning out the screw even won't help much. With the 55 bleed hole pilot it was way way too rich. That doesn't make any sense to me.

I was told by my dealer not to use the bleed hole pilot jets.

Why would he say that bill?
everyone knows you don't work on your bikes.
if seafoam can't fix it, nothing will.

Verg one thing Sea Foam want do is change the jets you have to do that yourself.

That's what I wanna try too. Don't know where to get one. I still can't believe that the difference between stock and 55 with bleed holes is so extreme.

Most Jap motorcycle dealers have all the jets sizes.

my 97 liked the big main but the pilot with holes it did not! had to put the original back in and it was fine.
K&N, and SE II exhaust with screw 1/4 turn back from full out.
