Title: front brakes failed inspection - shopping advice?
Post by DrunkenDwarf on 07/29/10 at 18:25:19

Only 3000 miles on the OEM pads.

EBC FA-106 still the brake pad of choice? Other options?
Any preferred vendors?

I'm open to suggestions.

3000 miles on front brakes isn't much....I haven't  ridden my Savage yet so I'm not sure about how good the braking is on that but on my Sportster, which is 500+ lbs and 94HP I get about 10-12000 on a set of Lyndall gold pads..... and I ride it real fast and use a ton of front brake

get the cheap $15 + shipping kevlar pads from ebay. EBCs would be just about or definitivley worn out by now in the season even adjusting for my riding less this year. They seem to be lasting about twice as long.

I was reading a thread (I think by Oldfeller) about the rotor wearing when using harder pads. Is that a concern or just something to be aware of.

If you have a concern, pick up a used disk.  they range from 10 to 50.

I just bought some ABS (swedish) ceramic pads from d2moto.com for $28. Fast delivery, no tax, no delivery charge...

I've used OEM until recently, when i picked up EBC FA106s and put them on myself.

can't say i noticed any real difference, other than they squeak less. i think i have around 2500 on this set.

how long they last depends heavily on how you ride. someone really aggressive on braking pads might last 2-3k. alternatively if someone is really light on them, they could last 10k
