Title: Tire wear?
Post by Drifter on 07/25/10 at 09:17:07

What kind of mileage do you get out of front and rear tires?  What tire other than the stockers do you recommend and why?

Stock rear is gone in 6,000 miles.   Front lasts less than 10,000.

Front brake pads are gone before the tire is done.

I have a feeling that tire wear has as much to do with riding style and location as it does with brands.  My '06 has 11,100 miles on it and I still have the factory IRCs on it.  The rear will need to be done by the end of the season and the front could probably go another season but I'm going to replace them both at the same time.

I use 2 rear to 1 front. I dont sweat changing brands, front to rear, BUT, I do have handling issues, in spite of a Superbrace. I feel the rear of the bike, yo-yo up & down, then  the front starts swinging back & forth. It gets kinda crazeee.

It took me 8700 miles to get to the wear bars on my OEM rear IRC.

I've still got the OEM front IRC on there, 11,000 miles.  Its getting close.

Pretty much all urban riding.

I stick w/ the cheapo IRC tires because I don't want my tires to age out before they wear out.....I don't put a lot of miles on my Savage, even though it IS my daily rider (I don't own a cage).

My bike is in my signature.

As I was reasearching tires, I didn't find the IRC's to be so "cheapo".

My factory rear tire was bald by 7500 miles and I didn't do any burnouts either. The country roads around me aren't the best though. The front tire was changed at 12000 miles due to it not holding air, never could find a leak.

I rode the IRC rear for 5000 miserable miles. It was loose in corners from day one. I kept it because it kept me slower in corners & I was able to practice riding in the wet, even when itwas dry. I rode it past the time to replace it, it was bald & ugly at 5000 miles. Put some chinese thing on & had another5000 miles, but it was a good tire & worked well & was cheap, so, I did another one of those & it wasnt as good & only lasted 3000 miles. The Dunlop is worn oput that replaced it, so, I got 7000 out of it, since the bike has 20,000 on it.
5 +5+3+7,, yea,, the Dunlop hung in the best..

i'm closing in on 15,000 miles on my '07.  i'm on the second front tire and the third rear i think both are good for this riding season.  So I guess that means I concur with O.F.

only got 3000 on the stock rear tire - about 6-7000 on 2 kenda challenger's since then.

i think i changed the front  when i changed the 2nd rear - about 9000 - it still looks pretty good now
