Title: Fork brace
Post by rl153 on 07/19/10 at 08:10:32

I was thinking of getting a fork brace . What is necessary to properly lift up the rubber protectors and what do you do with them, once you install the brace ?Tkat and superbrace.

You don't have to lift the rubber protector it stays on,I you have newer s40 you have to cut off the plastic piece.

Rubber protector? You got gaitors on?
Whatever, the brace has to clamp on the lower parts of the fork, just abover the fender. Nothing can be between fork & brace.

Superbrace sells fork protecters for theirs, Pricey for what they are. My Savage tug had a superbrace already so I went for it. Bagger has TKLAT and yellow fork boots. Max

Buy the boots and when you change the seals or fluid, just put the boots/gaiters on before you slide the fork all the way back in the triple tree upper. Max

I think he may be referring to the rubber/plastic guards, that wrap around the tube where a brace would attach.  They have a little lip in the front that comes up a few inches inches or so to shield the bottom of the shaft from rocks and grit.  They would have to come off to get a brace on.

take a look:

Heres a picture of my bike ,2005 s40. There are thin rubber seals on top of the fender around the fork tubes and also some plastic peices. All that comes off permanently when you put on the fork brace ?Do you replace them with anything?

Those rubber around the forks are seals they don't come off and aren't in the way,The plastic pieces come off you can cut them with a shape knife.

For those that are interested in the tkat. I just inquired about the price of one from them last week.  The price is now $92.00 and that is with shipping included.   :)

Do you have to give tkat measurements or tell them you have a savage or does the yamaha one they make fit direct to the savage?

If you order the standard forkbrace ,will you need to buy anything else,or does that include everything you need ?

Tkat does not take paypal
Tell him you have a LS650 or S40 as the case may be.
If you have the plastic fork protectors, they have to come off.
If you have fork boots or gaitors, you can trim the bottom off so it sits on top of the fork brace.
The fork brace kit comes with every thing you need to install it except the wrenches.

Good choice.  I am generally all thumbs, and it only took me about ten minutes to install my TKat.  I really like what it has done for the handling and stability of the bike.

My tkat bolted on real easy. The parts were machined to a very close fit. I just used a rubber mallet and a light tap to ensure they were seated properly before tightening the bolts.

Thanks Babyhog, nice picture ,is that an s40?It seems the black seals on my forks wont fit that way when I'm done,I don't know.Do you have to pry those seals up and set them on top of the fork brace ,or just leave them where they are and clamp the fork brace over them .

Title: Re: Fork brace
Post by bill67 on 07/22/10 at 13:42:55

You don't have to touch them the brace goes over them.
