Title: Rainbow Oaks Restaurant
Post by verslagen1 on 07/16/10 at 18:36:03

The Rainbow Oaks Restaurant, originally established in 1946, reopened in April 09, newly remodeled to restore the interior of the historic building to become a gathering place for locals, travelers and bikers to engage in fine, yet affordable dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner serving traditional American cuisine.

I have seen a couple of hundred bikes in front of that place at one time.  Seems rather popular.

Sounds like a good Saturday morning Ride:
http://www.andruschak.net/mike/Ride-CA74-Rainbow.jpg
A 60 miles or so to San Juan Capistrano at a Union 76 Station for gasoline and meet up.  24 miles up CA-74 to the lookout at the top and Photo, 4 miles/5 minutes to the bottom, a 30 minute ride to the  Rainbow Oaks Restaurant.  For lunch they have a Reuben, which is something I need to check to see it if is worthy.

I would be willing to make the ride if we could have three or six Savages to meet for lunch; then a 90 mile ride back up I-15 as we each split to each home.

I nominate 2nd saturday in august.

you going to take PCH to capi?

and I'd take grand down to wildomar before getting on the 15.

my parents live off of the 91 in riverside, so I'd probably turn off there.

Don't know if I will have my bike running by then, but I'd drive up to meet you guys.  It's only about 30 min from Escondido.

2nd Saturday would be August 14 -- Sounds good for me.  A lazy ride down the coast sounds like fun.  Can make San Juan Capistrano, say about about 10:30 am, to meet up?  Or can meet someone in the South Bay to meet Western & PCH about 9 am.

So far just me and you from here to ROR
Hope our other locals catch wind of this.
I measure about 180 miles if I stop at my parents.
Or 200 if I went home.

Seal beach is straight down the 605 for me.
There's a jack in the crack around 8th, between alamitos bay and anaheim bay, meet you there about 9:30.

3 more weeks till the Rainbow Oaks Restaurant ride.
So far, paladin and I will ride down from Seal Beach.
And maybe Scott will meet up with us at ROR.

Any more?

Anyone in So.Cal. will be missing a good ride.  The Ortega Highway is a ride up the mountains along to the vista of:
http://www.dslretorts.com/Paladin/images/Lake_Elsinore.jpg
You start near the Pacific Ocean (near sea level) to pass to 2650' just pass the lookout at 2550'.  From there you drive to the lake at 1240' -- 1300 feet of altitude dropped by just 4 miles.  (4 miles road, less than a 1/2 mile straight line from the vista to the flat land.)

Drove that road last September in a car rental. It would be a fantastic ride on the bike. Every bike we passed had a smiling rider. Palladin's pic brought back a great memory  Thx!!!

Huh??  It's has a Reuben on the lunch menu for only $9.95, with a side of your choice.  Looks like a reasonable menu and prices, for a Calfornian quality restaurant.  What?  You want Burger King??

Title: Re: Rainbow Oaks Restaurant
Post by kimchris1 on 07/28/10 at 10:26:50

Well no one said you had to eat there. You can do the ride and bring your own lunch if you wanted to.
As far as the Menu. Looked good to me and prices weren't much different than here.
Main thing is that you would be sharing what looks to be a great ride as well as a chance to meet a few of the folks from this forum. What more could you ask for?  I am sorry I don't live closer and can't partake in this opportunity.. ;)  kim

We have been to the Look Out numerous times but I don't think we've ever been by Rainbow Oaks Restaurant so if Hubby says yes and you don't mind having a couple Harleys with us then I would love to! :)

If your family doesn't want to go, either of us will pass by and help you getting into trouble.  We are both safe, especially Ms. Paladin.  (She shoots!)   Or the meet to the Jack-in-the-Box, which is straight city freeway/streets; and let you be front door or the rocking chair.

made it home safe and sound
but there is a little red monkey following me.
and he won't let me sit down.  bad monkey, bad.

accident #1, we pulled into the chevron just before getting on the ortega hwy.  And as we are discussing how much fun we just had... a cager knocks a biker down.  and they looked like they wanted to finish the job.  wouldn't wait till we cleared him out of the street.  low speed but he's got 2 good rashes and a minor one.  not full atgatt.  his bmw sides under a suv, egad how do you turn this darn thing off?  all the markings must be in reverse polish notation.  i ask the suv to back up a little so we can get the bike over to the side.  by time enough people show up we could've carried it.  a few minutes later, motorcop pulls up, then a squad car, then paramedics, then fire truck and then an ambulence.  I looked over at him and said but he walked by himself to the curb.

Accident #2... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38799234

First were in the 76 Station, my second checkmark place, when the guy got hit.  It was behind be and over before I saw anything. About 4 squares inches of elbow, about same knee, knee NOT feeling good wanting to stand.  The EMT's take helmet off, neck brace, takes him for checking out in the hospital.  ALWAYS a good idea -- YOU are not a doctor.

Second  about 20 miles up the hill.  The accident happened about five - ten minutes before we got there, about one-two dozen bikers waving people slowing etc..  See the bike on the center line, rider on the side of the road, getting CPR.  They have enough help around, they do not need a circus, we continue.  That one was bad.

I had breakfast at home, stopped to top up gas in Gardena, ride 20 miles to Seal Beach.  I arrive to the Jack-in-the-Box, just barely shut down as I hear a Thumper -- Verslagen.  We arrive within a half minute.  They don't have the senior coffee again, curses!  I get my coffee.  Verslagen eats breakfast, needed gas the next block for gas.
http://www.savageriders.com/paladin/images/Rides/GasStop1.jpg

Ride south on the Pacific Coast Highway, heavy traffic, cages and bikes.  Get to Dana Point, inland up to San Juan Capistrano, stop at the second checkmark.  Get to see the first accident in the other message.

We crest the mountain, stop for the Vista Point.  I always love the stop.
http://www.savageriders.com/paladin/images/Rides/VistaPointElsinore.jpg

Down to the flatland, a little beind schedule, my stomach alarm rang.  I was ready for lunch when we arrived to the Rainbow Restaurant.  Stop the a lot of bikes, V-Twins, just the pair of Thumpers:
http://www.savageriders.com/paladin/images/Rides/RainbowPark.jpg

Just to Babyhog(?) -- The Bar.  Not for me.  I am willing to drive after had a drink.  I will not drive a bike after had a drink  http://www.savageriders.com/paladin/images/Rides/RainbowBar.jpg

Verslagen has one of those fancy cell phone plus EVERYTHING -- he is reading SuzukiSavage Forum while waiting to our food. The Reuben IS excelent.  Marbled rye bread, piled on corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese -- a sandwich to kill for.  Really.  It is for killing me.  Corned beef is brine-cured beef.  Sauerkraut is shredded cabbage in brine.  I am suppose to keep my sodium over 2,000 mg a day.  I figure I have to stop eating for four days to average my daily limit.  *SIGH*   LOVE it.  May kill me.

A good day ride.  Slow because the traffic:

20 miles Home-Seal Beach via freeway
34 miles to San Juan Capistrano on Pacific Coast Highway
28 miles to Lake Elsinore up/down Ortega Highway
28 miles to Rainbow up the I-15
108 miles to Dana Point via Camp Pendleton on I-5 along the cool coast and back home.

A shame about the 2 bike accidents. There's a lot of that going around these days.
Just read about a bike that rear ended a semi on the #1 going west from Calgary. It is a 3 lane hi-way and no weather issues. He survived but is in the hospital in serious condition. I guess he zigged when he should have zagged.
