Title: Front Brake Pad to use
Post by Tiefighterpilot on 07/14/10 at 10:48:57

Anyone have suggestion on what brake pad is best?  Got links?

I just ordered a set from here:

http://myworld.ebay.com/atv_brakes_n_more/

They were cheap enough, shipping was free and I thought fast enough. I have not put them on yet, other fish to fry, but they look exaclty like brake pads. ;)

Bubba ordered a set from there:

I know nothing else.  That's my story and I am sticking to it.

EBC's are good but soft.
but I've just been looking for kevlar lately from fleabay.

The Kevlar no names from ebay (so far) are wearing significantly better than EBC reds. The EBCs were usually pretty near shot by this point in the season. The Kevlars look like they'll carry me through this season and a fair bit of the next one.

and the kevlars feel like stock brakes in braking power and grip force.
whereas the EBC's feel soft and require more grip to stop.

...can somebody post a link to the kevlars?...

I'd try them...

Emgo 106X equivalent. The thinnest version, there are 3 pad thicknesses of 106s. I think they ran me $14 plus tax. Plain old garden variety tan or gray friction material. I can sometimes score an asbestos set of rears...

I think mine were kevlar, but they are outside and I am not.  I searched for them on the ebay store and could not find any front pads for the savage.

Hmmmm

About how many miles should front brake pads last?  I'm at about 6000, I'm pretty sure they are original.

4000-5000 miles

Just joking they will make a noise or want brake good when you need new ones,Its all according to how hard you brake and how much they could easy last 10000 miles

You're such a turd!  What if I hadn't read the thread again?  But I guess you know me better than that.   ;)

i'd be a bit more cautious about break pad wear than just going by if they screech or not.

if you let pads wear down too much you risk them damaging the brake rotor, which is much more expensive to replace.

Bought mine here...
atvbrakesnmore.com   I think the set I bought is sold out (frt/r both for 40 bucks and that included shipping)
Went on great and the ad says they are a kevlar compound from DuPont...
No more squeaks from the rear pads...blew out LOTS of brake dust from the stock ones...plus I think they had hardened...they were old.

I got 3500 miles from the OEM pads.  I got 4100 miles from Ferodo Platinum pads.  I've got 3400 miles on the EBC Organic pads that are in there now.

All three of these pads had acceptable performance, with no squealing.

My bike is in my signature.

IHTH someone!

I got over 5000 miles on the ones that came with the bike when I bought her last summer. I will note the make when I change them out.

I do lots of breaking with both front and rear simultaneously in hopes of spreading the wear more evenly. Think that matters?
