Title: Pricing MC Insurance
Post by Routy on 07/13/10 at 10:29:56

What is the average going annual price for basic PL & PD insurance ?

Last July I paid $75 for one year,....seemed reasonable at the time. The renewal just came in at $95,....thats a 20+% increase,......unacceptable IMO. Can I beat that anywhere ?

On edit,.........
I was just informed that as of Jan 1, our state insurance commissioner raised the minimum liability coverage from $10,000 to $20,000, and is the reason for the 20% hike. So while my agent is checking for other less expensive carriers, so am I ! >:(

Thats cheap compared to me im 35 and live in a nationaly recognised low crime rate area and for fully comp the best quote i got was £139 that is with legal cover but no breakdown cover. I think that converts to around $210. I couldnt believe it,5 years ago i was riding a GSXR1000 and lived in an inner city area and was paying £750 I think insurance is biggest legal con a going, I should get a push bike and ride around the streets with no insurance then should i have an accident I aint got to worry about it - I HATE PEDAL CYCLISTS.. I think ill start a new thread on this actually.

I pay $252 per year for full coverage with $500 deductible from State Farm in SW Ohio.  I'm not sure what just the liability part of it is though.

Hubby and I have full coverage on both bikes with Progressive, my '06 S40 and his '07 C90.  $570 covers both for the year.  $194 for mine + $306 for his + $70 combined for uninsured/underinsured.

I can't remember how much, but I do remember that the full coverage was not that much more expensive than liability, so I opted for full coverage.

My policy shows discounts for "home owner", "multi-vehicle", and "prompt payment" and "claim free renewal"

Sorry, I know its not apples to apples, but I hope it helps some.

In Ontario you have to have a minimum of 1 million liability and most insurance companies want you to have 2 million ... It is just another legal scam how is it possible to do 1 million dollars worth of damages with a motorcycle ?   rampage through a museum anyone?   I wanna use some of this public damages money.

jsar its not just the actual damage cost its about long term costs aswell ie you run over a proffesional runner  and he cant run any more he will sue for loss of earnings over the rest of his working time span. Thats where the claims start getting into stupid amounts... So just pray you run over a 65 year old retired professional runner   ;D

95$ a year Basic liability with low deductables from progressive.  50,000 people city(Holyoke ma) with 2 speeding tickets about 3 years ago and a néwer failure to yield(supposed to pull into other lane so as not to kill or mame officers pilling people over) about 1.5 years ago.  Looks like allstate is turning out to be the cheapest so far for peoples.

$90 something/year with progressive - maybe a bit less for paying all at once.  The insurance lady called  around and found this.  I thought it was pretty good.

Property taxes cost me $15 this year.

I ended up going with "Geico" at $99 a year,....includes 50K liability, x medical for rider and pass, comprehensive..fire & theft, and uninsured motorist. $50 deductable on everything. And that is w/ no discounts for any other vehicles. I would have got a 10% discount if I had done the MC saftey course, and another 10% if I move my cars to them. Hard to beat this price,.....maybe Allstate.

Thanks for all the replies.
