Title: Can't get fuel
Post by Nathan on 07/08/10 at 16:24:41

So ive tried everything, the bike was running great, just got it all put back together after getting it painted! (check it out) but now my fuel isn't coming out of the carburetor. I have fuel coming through the petcock, and going in. it fires when i pour a little gas on the piston but won't continue. Any one have any clue other then trying to tear apart that carburetor what could be wrong?????

sounds like clogged jets from what you said.
fill up the carb with seafoam and let it sit overnite, drain carb, fill with good gas or tear it apart and clean it.

Could be a stuck float needle,...  sometimes, you can free it by lightly tapping on the bottom of the carb...

Put the kickstand up & drop the bike on each side, twice. Guaranteed to fix it. I promise. Seriously, thats what Id do.  ;D

What? You dont trust me?  :-?

Im hurt. :'(

drop the carb float bowl, see if there is fuel in there. make sure the floats move freely.

you can do this with the carb still on the bike, shouldn't be too hard, just watch you don't spill gas everywhere (assuming the float bowl has fuel in it).

If you have any problems taking the bowl off, and if you are doing the work somewhere quiet - I've found you can hear the fuel trickling into the carb bowl and stopping when the floats rise. Drain it first with the drain screw on the bottom of the carb-bowl (with the petcock turned off) then turn the petcock to prime and you should hear the fuel trickle in for 10 seconds or so.

If that's ok then it's probably a clogged jet, so Seafoam first, then strip and clean if still no good.

Hey guys thanks a lot for all the help! I believe its the float needle. I took the whole carb off and cleaned it. (outside) Then I took the bowl off and it did have fluid but also some gunk. It seemed like the needle valve wasn't opening so now its soaking in carb cleaner then I'm gonna re-jet it and she should be ready to fire! :)
