being in lanes of traffic... there's more there than a cruiser backin' up over a cruiser.

Scrapes on road make me think the bike slid under him.

Yeah,.. those look like scrape marks in the road, in front of the bike...
...like the bike laid down and skidded into the car...
...but,.. I can't imagine the bike getting under there, without the car backing up and over...

Maybe the cop was backing out into traffic, and the biker laid it down in a skid trying to avoid him?...

Those cruisers weigh about 2 tons, poor bike.

I woke up with one this morning  :o

Once again, a picture posted showing a police car in a bad situation. Had the car not been a police cruiser, the picture would probably not have been taken, let alone posted. Unfortunately, we have no more information. What happened? Was the cruiser stopped? Was the bike speeding? We don't have enough information to know. We don't even know whether the picture is current or old. This could even have been a "staged" picture, for all we know.

No, we dont "know" exactly what happened. But, we can use our knowledge & experiences to make note of some details to give clues. The road is scraped up & the car is jacked up on the bike. L/R bumper is mis-shapen & fluids trail from the bike, so, Id say the odds of it being staged are exactly zero. Now, who was at fault? I see no clue that would help me start to guess. But, Ill stick to my point. That had the cop not been there to be the other 1/2 of the collision, its likely there would be no need for one. I call that irony.

Yea, its bad taste, downright tacky, to post a pic of a cop car in a questionable situation. Must     maintain   loyalty   to the state, all hail the state! ( read & repeat as needed)

I didn't say it was bad taste to post the picture. And I am not surprised to see it posted, even without amplifying information, in a simple attempt to make the police look bad. Indeed, the driver of the cruiser may have been at fault. In general, however, when a vehicle is hit from the rear presumptive fault is assigned to the rearward vehicle on the grounds of "following too close."

I was stationed in Turkey for a while. We were told, in the event of a traffic crash, that we would almost invariably be found at fault regardless of the actual situation, because "If you weren't here this would not have happened." That "logic" is precisely the same as saying the cop is at fault because he had to be there to be the other half of the crash.

As far as the odds of the photo being staged being "exactly zero" you have omitted the very slight chances of either a) a movie stunt: or b) someone shoving the bike under a police car just for such a photo.

And no, I do not believe "All hail the State."

No,,, I didnt assign fault to the cop, I simply stated that had he not been there to crash into, the odds of the biker being in a spot that requires a cop would have gone down, dramatically. The thread title [played a role in my reply.

With that logic, that if the cop had not been there the accident wouldn't have happened, if the motorcycle had not been there the accident would not have happened.  Such an illogical remark.  You could use that argument for every accident.

I hate to sound too serious but I don't see a lot of "funny" in a bike accident.

Daaang, folks, it was the thread title that made the whole thing. There was some irony there, IMO,,in MY opinion, for those who dont share that position, ooooookay,.,,

Personally, I didn't think any part of it was funny. I just thought of it as another attempt to make the police look bad.

Every so often we have police involved in car crashes. When it happens, as a general rule a different police agency handles the incident. If a city cop is involved, the county sheriff or the State Patrol investigates.  I feel sure there is a "brother in arms" effect, but at least a different agency gets involved.

Use to hate cops with a passion. Cops gave me the nickname Midnightrider. I was involved in a lot of illegal streetracing, usually late at night. They tried but they never caught me when I was on a motorcycle, one night they had 7 county cars after me. Then I fell in love with one of them, she told me all about their attempts to catch me and how they had nicknamed me Midnightrider and how I always vanished into thin air LOL. Looking back on all of it now I'm thankful no one ever got hurt. Being married to one I get to hear their side of the story and they have a tough life. Last week I bought an officer lunch that wrote me up for DWI in 1992. That ticket cost me thousands of dollars and I was pissed at the time. This officer is retiring next month and he rides motorcycles and wants to learn how to fly RC planes, in other words he wants to hang out with me when he retires. I told him to come on, we'll do it. Now I'm wise enough to know he could have kept me from getting hurt or hurting someone else the night he arrested me. We get aggravated when we get a ticket or some other legal problem arrises that doesnt turn out exactly like we want it to but the bottom line is what would our world be without them?

I got no problem w/ cops who act in a Constitutionally based manner. Outside of that, just thugs in uniform, sucking my $$$ & beating on me with it.
