Title: Any 1/4 Mile Specs for the S40 Savage ? Post by Routy on 07/01/10 at 07:09:00 I always wonder if this s40 is as fast as my '64 750 Atlas was that I ran thru a 1/4 mile 46 yrs ago,......14.2 sec @ 90mph. I'm sure it can't be, but at 46 yrs later, it feels like it is. Just curious how close it comes. I know that Norton (road model) was heavier, but I was 40 lbs lighter, so maybe a wash there. But a hundred cc's is a bunch, and it does seem like it had a stronger upper end,...which is where the xtra cc's show up most. But every time I twist the throttle, it brings back memories of the Norton days,....I really did like that bike back then. http://p1.bikepics.com/pics/2010/03/29/bikepics-1938222-full.jpg |

Title: Re: Any 1/4 Mile Specs for the S40 Savage ? Post by weracerc on 07/01/10 at 10:50:37 time it with a sundial or calendar - since it is a cruiser not a racer....JK!....i love mine but since it is toting the equivalent of 2 up when i ride solo it is not worth taking it to the strip for any performance measurements. |
Title: Re: Any 1/4 Mile Specs for the S40 Savage ? Post by Stimpy on 07/01/10 at 11:13:10 * Results may vary depending on the condition of the bike but charon and jabmans' numbers sound about right, the secret of a quick start on a savage is to rev the hell out of 2nd and 3rd gear; I used to start on 2nd gear a lot, bike didn't mind, not even with a copilot. The memory of the 1st time ever I gunned my savage to about 70mph in front of my house on CA hwy 101 is something I'll remember on my deathbed, srsly. ...does anyone have a similar experience? |

Title: Re: Any 1/4 Mile Specs for the S40 Savage ? Post by Stimpy on 07/01/10 at 13:38:43 ...well, I thought that "the speed of dark" was a place, a 1/4mile drag strip with a very clever name or something god dammit ;D |
Title: Re: Any 1/4 Mile Specs for the S40 Savage ? Post by LANCER on 07/03/10 at 03:43:46 0-60mph in 4.9 sec; 1/4 mile in 14.2 sec @ 89 mph. (this was done 2 years ago)...and that was with the front wheel trying to go up and over so I could not get the most from it. The light weight and short wheel base and rear wheel traction make it a little hard to get a really good shot out of the hole without landing on your butt. |
Title: Re: Any 1/4 Mile Specs for the S40 Savage ? Post by Routy on 07/03/10 at 06:55:33 Wow, that puts it right in w/ the 750 specs ! I can remember having trouble w/ the Norton keeping the front down on the hole shot. Good going w/ the mods. ;) |

Title: Re: Any 1/4 Mile Specs for the S40 Savage ? Post by klx650sm2002 on 07/03/10 at 09:16:03 Std KLX does the 1/4 in 14.3/90 and 0-60 in 4.9. I'm probably heavier but she has more power. KLX used to need 3rd to do 60 but with the gearing she has now, 65 in second. Clive W :) |
Title: Re: Any 1/4 Mile Specs for the S40 Savage ? Post by jabman on 07/03/10 at 10:09:45 on a fast start is it better to start in 2nd then? |
Title: Re: Any 1/4 Mile Specs for the S40 Savage ? Post by klx650sm2002 on 07/03/10 at 10:18:11 Still start in 1st, she does 40+ in 1st but with 2nd doing 65 you save a gear change on the 0-60. Clive W :) |
Title: Re: Any 1/4 Mile Specs for the S40 Savage ? Post by Routy on 07/03/10 at 15:45:09 I'll tell ya whats a lot better,....getting old enough to when getting every hundrenth of a second shaved off a 1/4 mile ET isn't important anymore ! ;D |
