Title: Oil Splatter on Belt Guard
Post by double410 on 06/30/10 at 03:24:19

I have small accumilation of oil spray or droplets on the top of my belt guard, battery case, and side cover. There is no oil on the floor under the bike. This is a very small amount that I wipe about evey 100 miles or so. Do these bikes leak from the starter? Or do they tend to leak from the front pulley area? There is no oil on the drive belt. Anyone with the same issue? And what was the fix?
                                       Thanks

Check the vent hose coming from the air cleaner(?) Is that where that thing is? I ferget, anhow, look under the bike for a dangly hose & see if its plugged. Its sposed to be plugged & drained at oil change time.

I'm new to the forum. Just bought my 1st bike last week, mine had the same problem when I bought it.  I replaced the head gasket, but I saw oil on the motor as well so it was sort of obvious I guess.

Check the stud/nut at the center-rear of the head.. (faces up, under the intake manifold)...

I've had two leaks that gave symptoms like that.  One was:

The second one was:

Happy hunting!

How exactly do you drain the vent hose and is it absolutely neccessary when you change the oil?

Just pull the plug and let any deposits drain into a suitable container.  Replace plug after all of the nasty drains out.

Not absolutely required, but a good idea, I think.  It is really easy to do.

IHTH!

I had that same condition a while back. Turned out to be the seal behind the drive pulley. Ordered a new one through BikeBandit, I don't recall it costing too much compared to the new pulley I needed because the frickin nut wouldn't stay torqued.
