Title: '82 GS650L parts.
Post by jef.savage on 06/16/10 at 19:28:36

I've got a line on a complete '82 GS650L with cast wheels for low dollars.  How much of this bike would be compatible with my '86 Savage?  Wheels?  Forks? Anything else of interest?  I think I remember that Rex has some kind of GS forks.

Below is a list of "maybe"'s.

Verslagens got GS650 wheels IIRC. Not sure of the year he has but he had to add a  caliper and mastercylinder mount for his spiffy rear disk brake. Front wheel should work with spacing changes. The forks legs look too skinny but you can MAYBE switch out the whole front end. I think Lancer has a front end from a GS550. The tank looks way too long but who knows...if you can manage a swap out without any welding you've got a gold mine. Tons of members would love to have a bigger tank that dont know how to, cant afford to have done, or dont know someone who can weld. Myself included. That seat looks comfy...maybe you can rig something with that. Those bars looks like a nice compromise between stock pullbacks and the narrow mini apes on Yonuh Adisi's beast. Beyond that I have no idea.

How low is "low bucks"? Could make it a project in itself or tinker with swapping. Either way...post pics (coming from the computer illiterate guy who hasnt posted a single pic so far)

The front end will swap out but the frame stops are different.

the 650L is a shaft drive, GS450 is a direct swap out.

Tank is 4.5 gal, but you'll need to cut off the stock mounts and fab something.

As it so happens I have a Gs450 sprocket hub if you find yourself in need.

If you are getting a whole parts bike then you can use a lot of it.
Especially if the front forks, brake system and wheel are intack as a whole, it can be used.
Like Verslagen said, the stops are different.
On REX it did not matter since the tank I used is mounted back far enough that it is not contacted by the forks.

it was $75 on CL.  Looks like it's gone.

I paid that for the wheels.
