Title: 2010 sooting when blipped
Post by fascar228 on 06/14/10 at 02:30:08

hi All,

Need some advice/input on the following

1. I have a 2010 s40
2. Its done 2500miles
3. I did the hartmann mod to the muffler
4. sound now is awesome
5. backfires were loud
6. I drilled the copper plug and did the idle mixture
7. took just 1 turn and th backfire were reduced considerably
8. Yesterday I saw black soot coming out when I blip the throttle
9. The bike was warm after a 50 mile trip
10. I think it is definitely rich....
11. I revrted back to 1/2 turn on idle mixture...but the soot was still there
What could be the reasons

Is it the mixture?
is it the Air intake?
Should i remove the air filter to see the soot status?
Is this soot hurting me engine?

Faisal

Not hurting anything unless its so rich that its putting deposits on the mplug & will eventually foul it. Ive got soot all over my brake actuator arm & Im running a 150 main, stock pilot & 14 disks in the Supertrapp, yet, it is rich enough in some part of the RPM reange to mess it up w/ soot. Never fouled a plug or had any probs, except it gets dirty. I'd rather be 5% rich than 5% lean. Runs cooler.

Soot accumilates and may take awhile to blow out.

I might start an avalanche - but I think it's inevitable, a small puff of black smoke when you blip the throttle, I mean.

I've never seen black smoke come out of a motorcycle,You must be to rich,Or your piston ring aren't working good,Try so Sea Foam in your oil might free up the rings.

I've seen it quite often on throttle blip. Even on new fuel injected harleys.
