S40 riders with tachs-- what RPM are you turning while doing 60MPH?This assumes stock rear tire. Thanks.

Mine does about 4,100 rpm at 60 mph

If anyone cares, I was using 87 octane fuel (with Sta-Bil) from last fall when I put the bike away for the winter. Shell Rotella 15W-40 oil. Bike has about 6200 miles. Temperature about 70 degrees, altitude about 1800 feet.

Suzuki gives the following speeds at 6500 rpm. 1st, 35 mph. 2nd, 55 mph. 3rd, 75 mph. 4th, 90 mph. 5th, 100 mph. There is some rounding, as both the Metric and English speeds are given to the nearest 5, and the Metric and English speeds as given are not exactly equivalent. Because of that rounding my rpm calculations are necessarily inexact.

Okay, people. Since I seem to have a reputation for questioning the methodology of others, here's your chance to question mine.

with a 5speed bike.... 3850 rpm at 60 mph
with the 4 speed bike... 3950 rpm at 60mph...

On flat ground you should be able to maintain a stable road speed with correspodning rpms.

Years ago, before I went to chain, I put a tape around the circumference of the rear tire and read the ratios in the shop manual. I do not remember the exact numbers but they were very close to what Verslagen posted above. After going to a Michelin darkside and a chain and sprocket set up, at 60 mph I was about 100 rpm higher.
All this with a sidecar attached.

For 5th gear, about 60-65, 1/8 throttle or so is typical.

Just to be clear about my quoted post above:

Those are when I feel the power start give so I switch up a gear.
I know there is more and can push that up by about 5 miles an hour in 1st and 2nd. I can push it about 10 mile more in 3rd and 4th.
My suzi whines at about 55 or so in 4th so that's about max I feel comfortable in 4th and rpm are around 4000-4200.
In 5th I've had rpm at 5100 holding at 83mph.
Haven't had her over that, but know she had more power to give, although my nerves did not.

I did read on here when I fist joined last year after getting my ride that max tourq per gear is had when shifting at around 3400 rpms

I shift a lot quicker than that,By 35-40 I'm' in high gear.

looks like I'm in the higher gear at about 2500 rpm,Thats when it starts making good torque.
