Title: Reserve Post by Tanker2Biker on 06/11/10 at 17:47:05 OK, we discussed how far we get before we hit reserve, now let's see how far we can get ON reserve? I started sputtering today on the way home, right at 98 miles on this tank. Since I was in the home area, I decided to take the long way to my favorite gas station. I also knew that if I ran out on the way, my long suffefing wife (36 years so far!) would be able to grab the 1 gallon can and bring me some. I made it to the station, about 17 1/4 miles, without running out. But it made me think about how much further I could have gone. So, how far can you get on your reserve? |

Title: Re: Reserve Post by james may on 06/12/10 at 06:13:24 I've heard that reserve kicks in at 1.8-2.2 gal with the tank being 2.8 I think.. giving you alittle less than a gallon left.. |
Title: Re: Reserve Post by 12Bravo on 06/12/10 at 07:09:09 I always fill the tank up as much as possible, without it leaking out. I rode 120 miles and had to switch to reserve then rode another 5 miles to the gas station. I put 2.3 gallons in the tank. 2.2 gallons before hitting reserve is about right. I know that is what the owner's manual states. |

I fill to the rim. I normally switch to reserve fuel within a few miles, about 2.1 gallons. MOSTLY I remember to switch to normal. My tank is a nominal 2.8 gallons, actual is 2.93 gallons. Checked twice. Thus I can authoritively state that I run on 2.1 gallons plus a 0.8 gallon reserve. For city, 45-50 mpg, I run 95-105 miles; plus a reserve of 36-40 miles. Cruising the Mojave, ran 147 miles to the available reserve of 56 miles. |
Title: Re: Reserve Post by james may on 06/12/10 at 19:21:44 This whole reserve setup seems a bit annoying.. The bike starts to stall out and that's what tells u it needs gas. Then flip a switch and go get gas... Wouldn't a gas light suffice with no reserve??? Anyone know of a way to put a low gas light on a bike?? |
Title: Re: Reserve Post by bill67 on 06/12/10 at 19:32:06 No I don't know how to put on a light,But just leave it on reserve and you don't have worry about. |
Title: Re: Reserve Post by kimchris1 on 06/12/10 at 19:48:14 The one time I had to put on reserve and go any distance before gas station, I got about 20 miles. Their was a lil gas left in the tank yet not much.. I try and fill up every 100 miles and then no worries.. |
