Post by marksavage on 05/26/10 at 00:57:32

hey
just finished putting a 95 model 5 speed in my 86 model frame.
started it up idle s perfect but when you go into the higher revs its starts to miss the and as revs comedown shoots a flame out the exaust and back fires.
any idea what the problem may be ?

CDI units need to be matched by model year. A '95 engine needs a '95 or later model CDI.

You will need the connector as well, from what I was told the other day, you will have to cut off the 86 connector and splice in the 95 connector to connect to the 95 CDI.

I will be doing the same 96 into a 87 frame, here in a few months, any tips??

Folks, I have a '96 that ran fine when parked (last ran sometime in February?), but has magically developed a really nasty misfire that's exactly like marksavage.  Thought it was a gummed-up carb, but my mechanic "scrubbed it to within an inch of its life," and swears the carb is clean as can be.

Everything else seems fine...  which has been pointing us to the CDI.  Do the Savages have a known CDI issue?

To be fair, the bike is moderately modded, pipe/pod/jets airbox-ectomy, but she's run quite well for a couple years in this setup and now this...  suggestions?

Anybody know where I can find a CDI real cheap?

hey, i cant really suggest what the problem may be but i got my CDI off ebay from pinwall motorcycles in ohio, they were really good operators and it was about $70

sounds stupid, maybe try putting new fuel in it if it has been sitting for awhile
