Title: Culutch cable Snapped...Need help on side of road
Post by kel30734 on 05/20/10 at 06:33:39

My clutch cable broke last night on the way home
broke at the handle bar
No one in town has one in stock.
Is there a Crossover replacement just to get bike home?

HELP thanks
Kel

You didn't say how it broke, but if the barrel end in the clutch lever broke then maybe you can try something like this to get it home:

To get home:
Start in neutral.
Push bike to get rolling. (works better with a little help).
Shift into first.
Continue thru the gears, it gets easier in higher gears.
If you have to stop, shift into neutral while rolling. ;D
I don't know how many times as a kid I did this. We had other 'creative' methods to get non-running bikes home, including hand to hand towing. Ofcourse those were much lighter bikes than we have now. 8-)

I still keep ten feet of 'tow rope' under my seat. ::)

Been here, done this...
But now that I think about it... clutch cable snapped right?
That means nothing happens when you pull the lever, right?
Wrong! You can now use the starter while in gear.   ;D
Next time I'll give it a try.
bike in 1st, standing beside or astradle, push button and push bike (yeah it's gonna need some help) and don't let go.  YEEEHA!
