Title: Fuel line filter
Post by Starlifter on 05/19/10 at 20:35:25

I run with a filter on the fuel line. Today the bike quit on me. Fooled around a bit, then popped the filter off the fuel line, blew hard into the filter. Something went phoot and no more resistance when blowing. Popped it back on and everything ran fine. Installed a new filter today.
I was wondering if others use a fuel filter and if so what type, and which type do you think is the best.

Sounds like you had a large object suddenly get into the filter and plug it,....very unusual. You mite want to check the inside of the tank.

Any kind of inline fuel filter will do. I kinda like those custom looking chrome... see thru... replaceable cartrige filters.... any place it will be seen.

How did a large object get through the screen in the petcock?
You might want to pop that out and take a look?
I never heard of a vacuum lock in a filter?

I'm partial to the UFO-looking fuel filters.

FRAM G-2.  However, the way I've installed it will not work if you use the stock seat.

I donno what it was, I got some bad gas at a BP station a few years ago. It plugged up everything with rust particles, the gas must have been from the very bottom of the storsge tank. Drained the tank, cleaned the screen etc. I have been using a FF ever since.

Had a rusted tank on a suzuki 81 GN400 - that I put an inline gas filter on from JCWhitney. Chrome ends and glass barrel and replaceable filters and it works great. I can see the rust particles and open it up when I want to clean it. ;)

Those are nice units.  I've used them in the past.  A good choice for the Savage.
