Just another cage driver for us to fear and be wary of.
Does his mother know he drives like that?

Phelonius ::)

Another "cage driver for us to fear and be wary of"? Not bloody likely. I thought it looked like the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, and at the end that's what it was. A closed course, a properly sponsored race, and (probably) a VERY professional driver. And it wouldn't surprise me if his mother was in the crowd somewhere cheering him on.

I don't think they hold real races on the Dragon. It is , after all, a numbered US highway. It would be easy enough to close it off, but unlike Pikes Peak Highway, it is a highway to and from somewhere. The only "races" on the Dragon are between fools.

I figure three different points of view in/from the car, plus a helicopter for the aerial shots.  Then who knows how many cameras at particular curves.

One nice piece of post-production from the French!

Given the title, and 'bot's flair for the...unusual, I was almost afraid to open this!  ::) Pretty impressive video. I wonder how many requests they get for these kind of closings a year?

They have been running the Pikes Peak hill climb since 1916. It is an annual event and has somewhere around 11 classes ranging from motorcycles to trucks. This year it is to be held late in June, I believe on the 27th. Google "pikes peak race" and you'll find out probably more than you ever wanted to know about it. It has been quite a few years since I last drove up it, on a Honda TLR200. There are places where, if you should happen to slide off the road, you would probably starve to death before you hit bottom. When I rode up, the last ten miles were gravel. The road is slowly and steadily being paved, and I think there is only about six miles of gravel remaining. Whenever the road is finally paved all the way up, I think it will take the title of "Highest Paved Road" away from Mount Evans.

  In 1956 chevy had an ad of a 56 chevy going up Pikes Peak it was all gravel then.
