Title: Highway Bar
Post by Tanker2Biker on 05/13/10 at 09:46:17

Is anybody using a moustache style highway bar?  And if so, are you happy with it, and where did you get it?

I can't remember seeing any pictures of any, nor anyone mention having one.  (just so you know this thing is working lol)

Only way to get one for a Savage is to have it custom bent up to fit. And you will have interference problems with your foot controls unless you have the lower mounting tabs about 4 inches out from the frame.

Get some cheap conduit and make yourself a mock up. The lack of accessories for the Savage is sickening, you might be able to recoup your costs by offering the finished product here.

The OEM (Suzuki) Engine guard is a cosmetic piece only (sez so on the packaging) and isn't practically functional. Look up or Google "Winger line Highway Bar" ... there is a good looking, practically functional aftermarket piece for the LS650 available by that name. Can't remember exactly the company that produces 'em, but some of our Members here have it installed and maybe they can pop in with some info and maybe a few pics?

EDIT: Here's the link ...

Thanks!  That's a place to start.

What I was thinking about was like the ones Reelthing has on his:

He said he thought he go it from Highway Hawk, but I have not found something that looks quite like it, so I thought I'd ask our "vast and unpaid research department"  :)

Those look great, but I'm not very good at visualizing how they will mount.  Do you think the mounting would be affected by the Ed L's forward controls I have?

I've seen those bars of a S40 they tilled way forward at the top and don't look the way crash bars normally look.

Yup, have had the genuine pleasure of meeting Reelthing personally and can vouch for the fact that he is a top notch guy for sure!

I'll be back in the civilized world in about a week - I'll see if the
highway bars have a part number stamped on the plate - pretty sure
they were made by highway hawk - but may have been either a
universal fit or listed for a different bike

I had one on mine, and it was ok.  It would've been better if it stuck out to the sides just a little more.  But considering it was $25 at a salvage shop, and came off of some kinda Harley, I couldn't complain.  I had to make my own mounts, but wasn't too hard, and I could find most of what I needed in the scrap bins at work!

Here's some pics, for what they're worth:
