Title: Going tubeless

I have talked with several riders about this process.  Most are Vulcan riders.  Here is the link.

Just curious, what's the advantage to going tubeless other than saving the cost of a tube?

In theory, easier balancing, smaller unsprung weight, easier repairs etc... There must be something else I'm missing.

I wouldnt expect to see much savigs, if any, on the unsprung weight, but being able to plug a tire & hit the road with no drama is the thing Id be looking to get from it.

Indeed. That would be the only reason I switched to tubeless. Plugs and a pump of some sort and we're good to go after a blowout. Not so with the tube.

in the event of a blowout a tubeless tire will hold its air longer than a tubed tire ... its a safety thing ...I think that is what one of you were missing.

:) That's the one!

Having survived a couple of blow outs, I can tell you that every time I puncture a tubeless bike tire I replace it. The risk of a 20K Emergency Room visit out weighs the cost of a 150 dollar tire a hundred times over, (not to mention the pain).
If you have steel belted tires you must remove the tire to patch it correctly anyhow. If you plug a steel belted tire from the outside you run the risk of de-laminating the belts and causing a catastrophic failure.
As far as unsprung weight, what are we talking about here, a pound? The front end is too light anyhow.
