Title: 1st oil change Post by bobed on 05/06/10 at 19:23:02 Finished my first oil change on my S40 -- very easy following the tech page, it was much easier to use an alum cake pan than the normal oil pan. |

Title: Re: 1st oil change Post by justin_o_guy2 on 05/07/10 at 02:04:20 I have a cake pan layin on my regular oil change pan, cuz bikes dont fit on top of the big one. |
Title: Re: 1st oil change Post by rl153 on 05/07/10 at 09:47:34 I'm going to attempt my first oil change one of these days . Did you replace the two o rings or use the same ones ? Also is the spring part trickey ? |
Title: Re: 1st oil change Post by Serowbot on 05/07/10 at 09:58:56 I reuse both... spring is just a little tricky... Mostly,... MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE FILTER IN RIGHT WAY ROUND.... Bad boom, if it's backwards!... ;)... It will blow the filter right through the side case!... Correct way... http://suzukisavage.com/images/uploaded/Oil08web.jpg |
Title: Re: 1st oil change Post by Reelthing on 05/07/10 at 10:06:26 It is interesting that the cover will blow out otherwise - first picture we saw of that was quite strange |
Title: Re: 1st oil change Post by rl153 on 05/07/10 at 10:19:22 The hole in the filter faces the inside ,towards the motor. Got that . Where does the small o ring seat,in the indentation around the hole? Also is it possible to overtighten the cover and crush the big o ring? Just double checking. Thanks |
Title: Re: 1st oil change Post by Reelthing on 05/07/10 at 10:26:32 There's a metal tube that the oil slips on toward the engine - small rubber oil goes on this shaft to seal it - large rubber o-ring fits the cover to seal it - a spring fits in the center of the back side of the oil filter and pushes against the oli filter cover to hold the filter tight against the engine |
Title: Re: 1st oil change Post by Serowbot on 05/07/10 at 10:48:46 worse than over-compressing the o-ring... you don't want to strip out aluminum case... Steel bolts in aluminum cases,... always be careful not to over tighten... |
Title: Re: 1st oil change Post by justin_o_guy2 on 05/07/10 at 12:13:14 T handle allen wrench, if youre a giant, use 2 fingers. Youll feel the screw land, then just snug it up a bit. This isnt holding the thing together. You can check them later to see if they need more torque. You cant undo a stripped case w/o a load of hassle. |
