Post by pradeepa on 04/30/10 at 08:13:03

what is the standard/acceptable specs for center width and pull back width on ape hangers for a savage?

Also what's the best place to get extended cables?

thanks

Im not sure what the tube diameter is on the risers for a 95 is,  but on my 87 are 1".  As long as they bolt up and feel comfortable they should be fine.  The first thing I did to mine was ditch those horrific buck horn bars.

Amazing we all like the same bike, but so many different opinions on simple handlebars!  Oh, the beauty of it!
I hated the drag bars, so found a set of HD bars, about like the older buck horns!
So go with whatever you are comfortable with!

I agree with babyhog; its all in the riders preference.  Im running drag bars at the moment, but am considering a set of apes.

Swapping out handlebars has to be the simplest way to change the look and feel of the bike.   It's cheap and easy enough to change as often as you like.  Just FYI, all Savages and S40's came with 1" bars.

Bought mine with drag bars.  Short ones.. Want to put on some wide drag bars on it though.

A guy I work with recently swapped out the buck horns on his Wide Glide with apes.  He said the counter-steering was totally different.  Any of you "apes" out there think that?  Might make a difference for someone contemplating changing.

I have problems with both shoulders. Believe it or not, the apes help. Drag bars hurt after a short time. I agree about rider preference, just remember, most states will not allow your hands to be higher tan your shoulders. If you want some excitement in your ride, put the tallest apes that you can find on, and convert to a suicide shifter! ;)

I had a tall set of apes on my sporty and was fun and all when I lived in Nc on straight roads, but when I moved back to Wv it was an aggravation on the curves around winding roads.  But dang if they dont look good, but as said above make sure they meet the regs in your state.
