Title: Bike Won't Start! Help
Post by newcruiserRIDR on 04/18/10 at 17:25:14

Just took my 09 Savage out of storage from  the winter. Bike wouldn't start. Put a brand new fully charged battery in it, still won't start. When I go to start it is just doesn't seem to want to turn over.....any suggestions...not overly technical so go slow.

Thanks.

Start with the basics

- Did you prime the carb? (PRI setting on fuel petcock for 10 sec or so)?
- Is the run/stop kill switch set to run?
- If weather is warm, did you over choke it?  In warmer weahter, you don't always need any choke or maybe just first click.

if no starter cranking at all insure you are:
in neutral
kill switch to run
clutch in
battery connections are tite(red pos + term is on the right side)
no blown fuse(s) there are two

So, youre saying the starter doesnt run & the engine doesnt spin, or, it spins & wont start.

The starter goes and the engine spins, it just wont fire up.

Put it on prime & make sure youve got gas in the carb. Or, maybe just drain the bowl & see what the gas is looking like.

Probably have water in the fuel tank from condensation, and the fuel line's not primed from sitting.  Drain the old fuel out (just disconnect the bottom of the fuel line on the left side and drain it into an old can). Put in new with a half oz of Sea Foam to clean any gunk out.

You also might have drained the battery trying to crank it, so throw it on a charger tonight and along with the other stuff, your bike should be good to go.

Mine did the same thing.  If that doesn't work, let us know back.

Thanks to all of you for your advice. I drained the fuel and primed the carb today and she fired up no problem. I feel now like I know so much more about my bike as a result. Cheers
