Title: Nufoam filter re-visited
Post by JohnBoy on 04/16/10 at 20:56:47

The Nufoam filters are doing pretty good! They have very low resistance and seem to trap everything. Thanks Oldfeller!
The first two pictures show the outside and the inside of the Nufoam after four months of AZ dust and grime.

The inside inch of the filter shows no dirt at all. Any gray you might see on the inside is actually the shadow of my fat head.
As you can see I gutted a stock filter and built a hinged lid. Swapping out the filter element (Nufoam) is as simple as popping the lid open and dropping in another element.

The elements are so cheap (about a buck apiece) that I change one with every oil change. A Nufoam filter element and a little canola oil spray and you are good to go!

I made two and keep one handy in a zip lock sandwich bag for summer dust storms.
The Nufoam squishes down to one inch in the filter housing but springs right back to the full two inches as soon as you open the lid, even after four months. I cut the elements just a little big to insure that there are no gaps in coverage.

Anybody else out there having the same results?

Yep, that's one of them quiet mods -- lots have done it but you don't hear a lot about it after they figure out the filter can stop dirt jest fine even when it looks crusty on the front side.

They jest keep racking up the miles and miles and miles ....

Kroger Spray Canola oil.   One can ought to last for a year or two.
Man does that stuff get sticky

I tried to get cocky and just use canola spray on the stock filter.  Not too smart.  Haha!  Suki would barely run till I doused the filter in paint thinner.
I have yet to find a small square of the stuff.  Found a big poof at wal-mart but it was like $15, and I wasn't paying that.
