Title: backrest installation instructions.
Post by rl153 on 04/01/10 at 13:46:04

Can anyone tell me how to install a backrest? I think I can reach all the bolts inside the fender with a ratcheting wrench
What do you have to do with your blinker wires when installing a backrest? Thanks

IF you got all the right parts teh wire run inside your new fender rails..just like they did in the old rails..
one bolt up from the bottom at the back of the rail holds the back rest..
been 3 years but if i remember it was a 6 pac pita by myself, may want to do a topic search, think some undo the shocks..def need to get the back tire up off the ground first...couple of 4x4s works... when you think youre all done double double check tire clearance from your bolt heads

Just route the wires so they don't get pinched. I used a box end wrench on the bolts inside the fender. its tight but too difficult to get at.

Be careful not to scratch the crap out of your fender, don't ask me how I know this.

All I have is the backrest and the rails that came with it . Do you need other hardware ,or can you use the bolts and nuts that came with the original rails? Thanks

I believe some of the bolts are longer on the backrest side pieces.  As far as scratching the paint, someone on here mentioned taping off the area around where you're working to keep from scratching it.  Unless you have or are planning to have the flat black look (I'm looking at you Rocco! ;)).

;D that's the beauty of flat black, whoop on it, then reapply! lol
