Title: petcock repair kit
Post by Rocco on 03/31/10 at 22:43:48

first off, the guy darkhorse on ebay was very cool, very prompt and answered all of my questions, i would def buy from him again!

now the verdict, it took me a little while but i put all the new stuff in the petcock, that inside stuff is so flimsy lol

it was easy as it was just switch to new stuff, but she still sputtered down a couple times in "on" not as bad as before, but went back to normal in prime.....SO if that wasn't it what is it?

also, while i was in there i saw where the fuel goes in, there was this black gook....i think i tried to clean it out but it just smeared, would this cause an effect? how would it still work in prime though? i mean inside the petcock...

also, i had a little leak, then fixed it, then she wouldn't run @ all....decided after cursing for several minutes that the tank had to come off again...went to take off the vacuum line(smaller one right?) and it wasn't connected......lol tell me i'm not the only one!  :D

If it runs in prime but sputters in ON position AND you believe the petcock is okay, make sure the vac line is nt kinked or cracked. If that doesnt get it, then Id have to have a look at the screen on the petcock to see if its passing enough fuel. I cant imagine it being nasty.tho, you just had it in your hands,,You woulda seen if it was gunked up,right?

Replace with a Raptor petcock ... they bolt right on and are inexpensive ... and are the traditional ON-OFF-RES ... nothing to go wrong!

lol i was just checkin!!

and the screen looked clean, i'm just wonderin if it's the goop inside the diaphram that i saw !

i bought the kit hopin it would fix the problem, and if it only runs on prime and i have to shut it off, that's the same as a manual lol

yeah i was thinking that, how much of the can do i put in?

and my friend's kawi 1000 has 4 carbs, and one of the pilots are clogged....it'll be alot of work to clean all 4 carbs, will seafoam cure it?

can we each split a can? or a whole can each?

I'm wondering about your petcock rebuild kit....

I just did an eBay search for the seller "darkhorse" and came up empty.

Was it a valid rebuild kit?

the kit was exactly what i wanted, and was exactly what was shown!

except now, i'm having the same problem, it went away for a while, but it comes back every now and then, she'll start to sputter, even turn off @ a light, switch to prime and she's fine!

so, i'm tired of messing with it, and i'm going to spite myself, not buy a raptor, and just run in prime!

On the petcock on my'96,I had black goo in the vacuum side of the petcock.Turns out the rubber disc behind the white plastic disc had turned to goo. That happened to be the part that acts as an orifice to damp the vacuum pulses.Gave me all sorts of erratic behavior.A little different than what you had, just thought I would put it out there for anyone else with a petcock issue.Modded mine to manual operation, problem solved.
