Title: Eliminating airbox/side covers Post by PaulB on 03/30/10 at 07:45:26 As part of my bobber project ( I am looking at the full Blue Collar bobbers makeover, with elimination of the airbox/sidecovers), I want this look... http://savage.andruschak.net/greg_650_4.jpg[/quote] I have read the 12 step cone filter thread, and I understand how to do that, and that considerable carb rejetting will be necesary. What I do not know is, what has to be done to secure the battery after the air box and side covers are removed, and what is done with the ignition switch? Also, with the carb unsupported from the back, is there a risk of failure at the carb/intake manifold junction - I know this is a problem on the buell blast if you eliminate the airbox. All help appreciated, this is my first "project" Paul |
Title: Re: Eliminating airbox/side covers Post by Jimmer on 03/30/10 at 07:58:24 I've been using the cone filter for 10'000 miles (about 2 years) and have no problems. |
Title: Re: Eliminating airbox/side covers Post by wolfmrp on 03/30/10 at 08:03:41 Removing the airbox does not cause any issues. All other components are self supported. If you just change the filter and not the exhaust you my not need to rejet. Increasing air input without increasing output might not increase the over all flow of the system. Happy bobbing. :) |
Title: Re: Eliminating airbox/side covers Post by Yonuh Adisi on 03/30/10 at 09:01:55 That is correct. The Battery box is held in by four bolts in the bottom of the box, and the ignition switch is held on to a tab right on the frame. |
