Title: Washer in carb?
Post by shermeco on 03/29/10 at 18:46:39

I have been told mixed things about putting a washer back in the carb to replace the spacer?
I have a stock header into a sportster muffler cone air filter straight off the carb and an iridium plug. any ideas?
If i do end up putting washers back in where is the best place to get them and what size do i need?

Thanks in advance

didn't he include some washers or did you get an early kit like me?

the white spacer is smaller than a #4 washer but I think that what's been used.  #3 might be a better fit though.

must have been an early kit. I was told I should put enough washers back to be the same thickness as the original plastic one with the mods I have? any ideas on if that is true or not? right now i have no washers.

Mmmmmm, that suggests that the stock spacer (.100) was ok ?

Most of us used about .050 to .060 spacer.

I've heard differing numbers and sizes of metal washers...#4 or #3,  and 2, 3 , or 4 thick...
But,... if you have an Ace Hardware,... I use 1, #4 teflon washer... they come in black or white, both the same, and exactly 2/3 as thick as stock.... .066"...  stock is right around .1"...

stock is .110" or 2.8mm to be exact.

Oh sure,... "mines bigger than your is"...

...could it be different in Ca,?..  I've checked three different Az. bikes with a quality Vernier caliper... all right close to ..1"...
My 97',.. and Gerry and Nicka's 03', 04'...

maybe if you warm it up a bit   ;D

I've only checked one, but I remember others saying .110"

but think about it... .1" = 2.54mm

I think you found a shaver.   ::)

BTW, my caliper is calibrated to national standards   ;D

Wow,....a thread can sure go all to pcs overnite !

And whats w/ the mm's ? I never did get into mm, and too old to learn now.

Oh BTW, my stock (sold in Oergon) spacer was .102 in Sept 09.  Kinda sounds like close carb tolerances wasn't what Suzuski did best :o

you must be joking... :-?...

okay,.. I'd still say about 2/3rds of stock thickness.. the Ace #4 nylon if you can find it...
close enough.... ;D...

(edit),.. just went out and remeasured... my two stockers are .103", and .097"... the Ace hardware #4 nylon washers are I have stockpiled are, .062", .060", and .060"..
Close enough to 2/3 rds for government work...
