Title: Looking for saddle bags online
Post by juang on 03/26/10 at 21:43:20

I am looking for some good saddle bags online that will fit my Savage 98.  I don't want to modify the bike at all.  The other day I saw some good ones, but the rear turn lights had to be moved back.  So those are out of the question.

I'm looking for something that has lots of room and looks cool.  And let me know your experience with saddle bags.  Here is a pic of my bike and the room I have to work with the saddle bags.  Thanks

Take a piece of cardboard and do a mock up of the size that will fit between your turn signals and shock. Also the distance between where you want the top of the bag to line up along the fender and then down above the belt. (You can always trim down the yoke). That will give you a pretty good idea of overall size. You determine the depth. A lot of owners buy too small. I went with no name (Xelement) slant bags, 14" x 9" x 6" deep. Made from synthetic something, weather resistant. They look pretty cool, fit the bike nicely, have held up well and for $99 and I'm satisfied. Bare in mind that beauty is in the eye of the owner and what looks good to some may not appeal to you. I for one am not into tooled leather, conchos and fringe.

I made that mistake on my other bike (Marauder 800).   I have these bags:

They're too small.   You can fit a rolled-up jacket and a bottle of water in one bag, and some tools and maps and stuff in the other, and that's it.   They aren't really good for carrying groceries or packages.  You can't jam a spare helmet in them.

Take a look at the size of these bags, and then get something bigger.  ;D

I have Xelement bags on my S50 that I'm very happy with.  I got them at Leatherup.com.  I've gotten other things there and been very happy with the product and service.

Thanks to everyone for your replies.  very helpful.  I was looking into these bags.  What do you guys think?  should I go for them or look for something made of leather?

Check out jafrum.com.  I heard about them on a different forum.
The prices are lower than any where else I've found. Haven't purchased anything from them myself but plan to in the future. 8-)

Here is  a thread that was recently started... several pics of bags, but I do notice that many have moved the turn signals.  I have moved mine, but still had the same bags before moving them.  I just wanted new signals.
Oh, and don't forget DennisKirk.com

I recently got tool bags from Jafrum.com.  The quality and service are similar to leatherup.com.

+1 for Jafrum.  I recently ordered saddle bags from them for $25!  Shipping was about $10 I think and they were here in two days.  Quality seems fine and they are BIG.  14x6x11.5"  I've not mounted them yet as I'm still working out supports, but not seeing any downside.

KK lewi.  I got questions..... what bag did you get from them? Next don't they sell the supports? does it require pushing blinkers back?

Sounds like a great deal

Thanks

Bigger than the notes I had scribbled upon!  I think they had several in that price range if you don't like that style.  Size was my main concern.

I'm sure they sell supports but from what I've seen supports are stupid expensive.  I found some tubing at Lowes for $1.50 for 5 feet.  I plan to fabricate some myself and save $$ and learn a thing a two.

The bags do indeed require the blinkers to be relocated.  Here is my experience in doing so.

Ok, this is how things worked out for me.  Thanks to you guys, I decided to use Leatherup.com and got these bags.  I think they look nice and are VERY spacious.  Plus I didn't have to move the turn lights or do any modifications.  I ordered them Saturday and got them Tuesday.

I hope this will help those who are looking for saddlebags online.

I've got the same bags,I bought than 2 years ago and never put them on. I really don't need bags because I never go shopping with the bike. Why don't you level them up to me it would look a lot better.
