sit your self down in front of the brake arm.
and just as you nod off it should hit smack dab in the forehead.

What he's saying is that you'll replace your rear tire several times before you need to replace your rear brakes. Check the shoes each time you have the tire changed. I wouldnt worry too much about it unless you get a terrible grinding (not squealing...squealing happens sometimes) noise from the back when you hit the rear brake. If you choose to worry anyway Id say just replace them every other time you change your rear tire. They're cheap so it isnt a huge deal.

Ive used a grinder to cut thru parts of my rear shoes, to decrease the braking & try to control the rear wheel locking up so easy. Still, with 20,000 miles on it & being on the 3rd set of front pads, the rear shoes are in no danger of wearing out. If you use the front brake, the rear isnt gonna wear out for a Looong time.

Plus, when you hit the wear line you still have 1/4 to 1/3 of your shoe thickness left -- move the lever on the star form and keep on going ....
