CAP, HEAD SEAL

Not sure which one is the updated part. But i believe these are the PN's for the plug.

I'm still running the original head plug. I just took it out, slathered some RTV on it, and put it back, hasn't leaked since and that has been about two to three thousand miles now.

I'm pretty sure that's what the shop did to mine early on, before I started tackling my own repairs.  It worked though.

I got the new plug, put a thin layer of hi temp silicone sealant on it and inserted it. A minute later I looked and it had popped out all by itself!!
I inserted it a few times and each time it magically popped out.
It's the weirdest thing. Has anyopne else had this happen?
I checked the head cover to see if it will hold the plug down when installed. It won't hold it all the way in. It will let it raise up around 1/8 inch. Has anyone else had this problem?
Advice appreciated.
Thanks.

Last time I put one it did that. lol
The cover should hold it in, the cap on the plug should come up to the top of the head.  Which the the head cover has a flat spot for.

Thanks That's what I did.
The next problem I have is that when torquing the head cover bolts I broke a bolt.
I used the bolt torque spec that is posted on this website but I must have used the value for the wrong bolts.
From the chart I used "Cylinder, head-to cylinder nuts (8mm) 17.0-19.9 ft-lb"
I measured the bolts and they are only 6mm. Too much torque for these! Bummer.
Can anyone tell me what the proper torque is?
Thanks.
Patrick

Broken head cover (and head) bolts have happened to me many times.  I think those bolts get weak over time and torque values no longer apply.  Seems like I read somewhere that the bolts should be replaced, not reused.  I hope I have fixed the problem with stainless steel allen head bolts, but only time will tell.

For my bike (see signature), the torque for the head cover bolts is 6 to 8.5 ft-lbs.  I generally use anti-seize on these bolts and torque them to about 6.5 ft-lbs.

See my 15 MAY 10 post in this thread:

http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1099227295/90#90

for the torque order I use.

IHTH!
