Title: I've been lurking too long....
Post by Oldbiker73 on 03/15/10 at 11:25:25

Hello everyone,

I've been reading this forum for two or three years now and thought it was finally time to get off my backside and say hi.  Recently turned 50 and not getting any younger!

My bike for the last three years is a blue '07 S40, stock except for a new set of front pads.  It's machine number 20 on the list of bikes I've owned and at about ten thousand miles it's just broken in.

Owned half a dozen thumpers over the years and that's why I picked up an S40. Love those big singles.

It's interesting to read about the mods a lot of you have done, that Suzuki really is a blank canvas if you have the inclination to change things up.  No big plans for mine though, other than a new rear tire in a few months.  Spent too much time wrenching British bikes over the years, I guess I'm lazy now and just want to ride.  Though sometimes I wonder how it would look with a set of lower bars and rearsets.....

I hope this site keeps going for a long time.  Great reading.

Oldbiker

I'm in Canada, about a half hour's ride east of Toronto.  Not many Savages/S40s around here, mostly Harleys and Japanese sport bikes. Plus there's a Triumph dealer not far from here, the new Bonneville is the only current machine that has ever tempted me to change from the S40. But I don't like some of the things they've done with the new engine, plus the new Bonnie is in my opinion too heavy for a redesign of what was a straightforward simple vertical twin.  So my Suzuki's safe.  :)

Your not alone on this site. I am 58 and restoring a 1987.It was sitting in a barn under a canvas since 1989. Should have it on the road in about three weeks. I love tinkering on them and riding. Enjoy your ride.   Retired!

Weren't these bikes just made for tinkering? Low price, single carb/cylinder/pipe, etc. How can one resist? When I started I thought intended to do something more drastic to the frame to set the pegs & controls back, raise the seat, put conventional bars on, etc. to make it more like one of the old Brit singles, but I've gotten a little lazy and sidetracked w/ a Harley police seat like Gort's, so now I'm not sure how it will turn out. A lot of potential for fun (Yes, yes, the difference between men and boys is the cost of their toys...) and I'll post pics when I'm done.

Welcome to the forum, I've not seen you before.  We have another member from Italy, Mauruzio Pescatori if I got his name correct...memory is weak this morning.  He is here fairly often.
He is a Col. and works for NATO but cannot remember his location right now.
Anyway, welcome.

Like some of us here my drivers license reads 1948. The only thing old on me is the number. Age is a state of mind, since I've been told that I have no mind that means I'm ageless. Welcome to the group.

I'm 38 and already find it difficult to get out of bed in the mornings. But mentally I feel as if I am still 18 but not exactly bulletproof anymore. Maybe bullet resistant?  ;)

Welcome!  :) My birth cert says i'm 69, but after a valve job and a few other "mods" I feel about 50. I still have to ride my stationary bike 5 miles every morning to keep my legs feeling good and have some arthurs itis in my spine, but hey, I'm still breathing. ( I think )  ;D

You know something, that state of mind of being 18 continues to persist for a long freaking time...in fact it is still there in my head.  I've wised up a bit but the mental feeling is still there.  Too bad the body does not cooperate; especially where women are concerned.  Just for the record I am happily married and faithful to my wife, but being absolutely honest, when I see some really hot young thing strutting down the street or especially laying on the beach with those tiny strings barely covering up her body parts ....well, my mind just "goes where no man has gone before".........well, not not one, but you get my drift.  It really stirs the juices !

I KNOW ... I'M BAD   ::)
