Title: Manual Decompression Post by Truckinduc on 03/12/10 at 19:07:36 Anyone ever get rid of the electrical decompression and add a little lever to the bars? Im thinking of doing it to simplify the wiring harness, get rid of the big solenoid, and free up some space under the tank. |

I might be interested myself, so keep us in the loop... I just like the idea of simplicity.... Are you thinking of a handlebar lever, or reaching down like a carb tickler?... ...always looks cool to reach down and fiddle with stuff... ;) That's why I like the ignition switch and choke down there... very un-car like... cool... I have no practical advice,.. just wanted to let you know that if you try it,... I'll be following along... Good luck... ;) |

As is, you press the START button and the machine does the rest. The original poster says something about "freeing up some space under the tank." For what? Planning to put something else in there? |

Title: Re: Manual Decompression Post by miker on 03/13/10 at 07:20:33 I would agree that the stock set-up is efficient and fairly reliable. From a custom perspective, the stock electrics are very complicated. There are a lot of components hidden under the tank and both seats. I have always been partial to simplicity and manual overide capability. Relying too much on electrics (relays and solenoids), and electronics (timers) can certainly leave you stranded in the event of a component failure, and to repair roadside could require removing the tank and the seat. The complexity of the stock setup deals mainly with the starting sequence, so it is really not a huge deal on this particular machine, but electronics that are overkill can be the cause of the "Toyota Syndrome" ;) |
