I'm sucking at search this week I'm doing a valve adjustment this weekend, just want to make sure I have all the tools. can I get a list of everything I'll need? I think all I need are the feeler guages. |

If you can find an old set of feeler gauges at a garage sale for a buck, go ahead and cut off about three of them or, if possible, unscrew the bundle. You want to work with a single blade. Get one .001 tighter than spec, spec and one .001 looser than spec. Bend them into a Z shape for easier access. If you have fat fingers, clamp the Z shaped single feeler into a hemostat and wiggle it under the adjustment screw. This is WAY easier than trying to use a long straight blade attached to a bundle of other blades. |

Title: Re: valve adjustment tools Post by LostArtist on 03/14/10 at 13:59:21 yay! finished the valve check, with help from my brother-in-law, also changed the spark plug, got the wrong one first, anyone got any use for a spark plug for an sv650? ?? the valves measured a .004 in and the rest were .005 which is good considering I drive on the freeway at 60-70 mph all the time, and haven't had them changed or adjusted until now with 7300 miles on it, the original owner had them done at the 600 mile break in point, I have an air filter on it's way, so I need to go through and check everything for the 7500 mile service make sure I didn't miss anything. . . |

Title: Re: valve adjustment tools Post by james may on 05/23/10 at 21:18:44 Check the manual but I think retorquing the head bolts is around 8k mi. Also tightening and adjusting and lubing all the cables and brakes is a good ideA. |
