Title: Air filter
Post by desithug on 03/01/10 at 13:28:46

I havent riden for a few weeks and yesterday when I started her, it was leaking a lot. I found out that there was a lot of leaking going for sometime and the whole air filter box was flooded. Any ideas?

flooded with gas i assume? Give your carb a thorough cleaning. Somethings up with the floats or float valve.

Sounds like the float needle is stuck open.

Why isn't the vacumn operated valve shutting off the fuel? I thought that was the purpose for it.

Or has it been bypassed, like so many do ?

Agree that the needle/seat is leaking, and needs repair

Assuming you have a stock petcock...
is the lever pointing straight down?
or is in prime or something?
Check the vac line is it dry?
check your oil level, gas can flow into the intake then down into the crankcase.

Id Drain the oil. Its cheap compared to an engine. Study it to see if its got gas in it.

No need to experiment, a Raptor petcock is a direct swap and you do not have to worry about the vacuum messing up.

over the weekend we worked on the bike a bit. we looked at the carb and changed the float position. also it did not look like the needle was stuck. we put back the vacuum line which had been bypassed. there seems to be no leak as such right away. However the bike will stall after a couple of minutes of riding.

also i will be ordering a new air filter and a new petcock.

any other suggestions?
