I have thought about it but would really like a dr 650 engine with a Savage crankshaft in my Dr650.
If it could be done it would give over 800cc.

That oughta make for quite a test for the starter.

I just did a calc of using a Savage crank in the DR and with the larger 97mm piston, and the total is 694.64cc with a compression boost from the stock 9.7 to 10.5

How did you calc the 800cc setup ?

As far as I know, it's been talked about but never attempted..

The late model Dr650 engines are a very shot stroke with a 105mm piston.  Spin that on a Savage crank and let your eyes bugg out at your calculator.

just did the 105 bore x 94 stroke = 814cc

yep, that would be quite the bump every time it came around

If this would hold up, what would be the down side?

If it held up...you'd have to wear a mouth gaurd or say adios to your teeth i would imagine.

The crankcase on this puppy looks to be fairly large; maybe a slightly larger flywheel ? ? ?   ;D

Lets not forget the other japanese 650 singles. My buddys got a Honda XR650. That thing is a wheelie machine totally stock. Then there's the klr/x from kawasaki. All are about the same size and weight. A little creative mounting and they'd all make good replacements Id imagine. Ive looked at the idea very loosely though, and good condition used engines for all 3 of those bikes are down right pricey in comparison with used LS engines. I think it would be more fun and as or less expensive to get all you can out of the LS engine...which is exactly what I intend to do.

My oops. Dr650 late model is 100 mm bore.
I was reading the shop manual last nighgt and realized I had quoted the ore for the 800 Big.
100 bore and 94 stroke is only a measely 738cc..

Hehehehe! You'd turbo a food processor, Duc!

Joke aside, I gather they never sold DR800 in US??? Geeee. I thought 800 was the only DR BIG there is.
