What gauge wire is a battery cable on the bike?

I think it's 8. That's what I used to relocate my battery.. not many fires so far. ;)

A # 8 should definately be good for a jump. Is there a contact fitting that would be easy to access,then cap off when you're not using it,and where could I get one? Thanks

If you mean the connection to the battery, try a pair of these:

I got them at either Home Depot or Lowes. It looks like you can either solder or crimp them on. The stock rubber boot (with some judicious trimming) will cover the + terminal just fine.

If you want to make pigtail from the + terminal for easy-access charging, I'd get one of those alligator clips that has a sheath over all but the very tip. I had a setup like that on my last sportbike and it made it easy to keep old batteries limping along way past their "due date."

This info is very helpful . I was thinking of connecting both the #8 for jumping ,and the charging lead with the eyelets from the battery tender permanently .I will get the contact from Lowes for the battery side of the #8 but I want to put a contact and boot on the side that connects to the jumper cable that won't fall off and will look ok.I don't think I can do the same thing digger did.
With the battery tender cable ,it came with eyelets to connect to the battery,but I want to store all this wiring efficiently,so I don't have problems with it.Thanks

the finer(smaller) the strands of the cable the better..like welders cable
dont go under #8 awg to the starter....or same size for an aux "jumper"cable

I've been thinking about it, and I think I'm going to get the wire ,and those connectors at lowes ,and a couple of rubber boots and use the same one on both ends ,the one in the picture .Thanks for your help.

A handy thing I learned from owning two Russian motorcycles, is to have a heavy duty switch, (think 30 amps or better) in the ground cable from the battery.
This does several things. One, it is a quick disconnect of all electrical systems in the machine when working on something.
Two, when the bike sits unused for a period of time, open this switch and there will be no battery draw down by any of the bikes systems.
Three, it make theft more difficult by hot wire trolls.
Both Dnepr and Urals come with this feature from the factory. Not because they are smart but because the Ural electrics frequently go faulty and drain the battery overnight.
If you do not want a switch, you might consider a quick disconnect plug.

If you want the nice flexable fine strand wire, you probably won't find it at Lowes, because they sell house wire, which is solid. or course strand. I'd get the wire at an auto supply.
